If someone asks me to name a western singer, who has broadened the world of my happiness through his music, John Legend will be my quick answer, just like a reflex. In his long music career, he has won 10 Grammy Awards, five Soul Train Music Awards, two BET Awards and the list goes on. But to a fan, a passionate music fanatic like me- it doesn’t matter much how many awards an artist win; what truly matters is how his songs touches every single beat of the listener’s heart and bring about an emotional equilibrium. John Legend is truly the zenith of music.

Legend’s works, on his journey from ‘John Roger Stephens’ to being ‘John Legend’, has delivered a string of rhythmic delights for his listeners to get dissolved in a unique style of music. When his voice hits the line, “I don’t know who’s gonna kiss you when I’m gone!”, it feels like the world has turned void left with only the echoes of the song and fuzzy glimpses of one’s beloved.

The spark that originates upon listening to his compositions transports the soul to a place of rhapsody. How wonderfully Legend declares his eternal love through his songs like “Stay With Me”, “If This World Were Mine”, “King and Queen” and many more! Love gets a new definition every time Legend sings a song. “All of Me” and “Tonight” bear testimonies of shaping love’s infinite duration through music in a superbly artistic finesse. The quality of his voice and his ability to take us to places makes him not only a singer, but also an inimitable composer of melody.

Starting from his debut album Get Lifted (2004) to present day, Legend has never failed to feed the parched souls. John Legend has incorporated the feminist angle in his many of his works and it makes me feel stronger about him, being a female fan myself. “You and I” is a song that makes every woman believe in the greatness of her inner beauty which is far more important than how she looks physically. Fame and success have always followed Legend. But above all, his listeners have always been blessed with symphonic downpour of his songs, which are projections of his humility. For being the connecting pathway between our souls and divine love, John Legend will never meet death in our hearts.
