The nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar, has mesmerised the audience with her vocals for decades now. The 89-year-old singer has a huge fan following in the country and abroad. However, it’s an Argentinian florist who proved himself the “biggest fan” of the celebrated singer.

Lata Mangeshkar, who was humbled by the overwhelming gesture of this Spanish-born man, Santiago Lopez, shared the story on Twitter.

Lopez honoured the veteran singer by growing a special strain of a beautiful violet rose and named it ‘Lata.’

Not just that, he is also learning Sanskrit and Hindi to be able to converse in the Indian languages in which Lata has sung. To learn more about the Indian culture, he is also learning Yoga, as mentioned by the singer in her tweet.

“Namaskaar, I was deeply touched by this, so sharing it with you all. Mr. Santiago Lopez, living in Argentina and Spanish by birth, is my fan and a florist by profession. He has named this flower Lata. He has also taken to learning Sanskrit, Hindi and Yoga. Humbled and grateful,” she wrote on Twitter.

Lata Mangeshkar, born on 28 September 1929, is one of the best known playback singers in India, who has sung in over a thousand films. He name was listed in  The Guinness Book of Records as the most recorded artist in the history in 1974.
