No one imagined it would be his last public message.
According to reports, Zubeen was rescued from the sea by the Singapore police after the accident and rushed to a nearby hospital. He was admitted to the ICU, but despite the best efforts of doctors, his life could not be saved.
The heartbreaking news spread quickly across India, leaving not only fans but also friends and colleagues from the film and music industry in shock. Many well-known names from Bollywood paid emotional tributes to the singer.
Singer Kunal Ganjawala shared a collage of photos with Zubeen Garg on social media. In his note, he wrote, “Yaadein they live forever in our hearts & souls. Peace be upon you, dear Zubeen, & may you bring peace upon those people of Assam with your music, memories, your ways and what you stood for.”
Veteran singer and politician Babul Supriyo also expressed his grief. Calling Zubeen a “free soul,” he wrote, “Shocked & deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Zubin Garg. An extremely talented ‘free soul’, a friend & a colleague. He was the Pride of Assam and took his talent beyond borders, winning hearts everywhere, nationally & internationally. My sincere condolences to his family. #GoneTooSoon.”
Singer Shaan, who shared a close friendship with Zubeen, posted an old picture with him. In his long emotional note, Shaan remembered their good times together: “Zubin is truly a king!! Lived on his own terms… Left on his own terms. Once again I realised how I haven’t kept in touch with such a darling friend. Such a warm, uncomplicated, pure-hearted gentle soul… We have so many crazy memories together, but all from a very, very long time ago… I guess I will meet him in another dimension someday… Cheers, Brother.”
Zubeen Garg was a proud voice of the Northeast. Over the years, he built a special place in the hearts of millions, across the country.
He is survived by his wife, Garrima Saikia Garg, a fashion designer and costume director.
