Veteran poet, lyricist, and screenwriter Javed Akhtar is once again handling some online trolls. The celebrated writer gave firm and witty replies to users who tried to target him on social media during Independence Day discussions.
It all began when a Twitter user mocked him by writing, “lekin tum ho toh gadaar he” (but you are a traitor).

Akhtar, never one to stay quiet in such moments, came back with a powerful response. He wrote, “Gaddaar voh hain jo non cooperation aur quit India movement ke khilaf thay. Gaddar voh hain jinhon ne jitna hosaka angrez ki madad ki. Gaddaar voh hain jo humaray somvidhan aur tirangay ke khilaf thay. Yeh pata laga kar voh kaun thay apni jihaalet thodi si kum karlo.”
In simple words, Akhtar reminded the troll that true traitors were those who stood against the Non-Cooperation and Quit India movements, those who supported the British, and those who went against the Constitution and the Indian flag.
But the exchanges did not stop there. Another Twitter user took a dig at him, suggesting that he should celebrate Independence Day on 14th August (the date associated with Pakistan’s Independence Day).
To this, Javed Akhtar delivered an even stronger reply. He wrote, “Beta jab tumhare baap dada angrez ke joote chaat rahe thay mere buzurg desh ki aazadi ke liye kaala pani mein mar rahe thay. Apni auqat mein raho.”
As Independence Day conversations filled social media, Akhtar’s replies became one of the most talked-about highlights.
