“Dinner invitation accepted @tomholland2013. A little late. Just name the place!”

His reply quickly grabbed attention online, with fans celebrating what many are calling the beginning of an unexpected celebrity bromance.

The internet had already become invested in the story after Tom Holland openly admitted that he had invited the Manchester City striker for dinner through a direct message but never received a reply.

Tom Holland revealed the awkward story on Jimmy Fallon

During an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ on Monday, Holland decided to share the funny behind-the-scenes story.

The actor explained that he simply wanted to take a chance.

“I was like, ‘I’ll text him, I’ll take him for dinner.'”

But things did not go as planned.

According to Holland, Haaland never replied, not even with a polite excuse.

“Not even a response. Not an excuse, not, ‘I’m busy tonight, I’m playing football.’ Nada.”

The ‘The Odyssey’ star laughed at the situation and admitted that he had only been trying his luck.

“I just thought I’d shoot my shot, sent him a text. I never imagined I’d talk about it on live television, but here we are,” he joked.

His comments quickly spread across social media, with fans teasing Haaland for leaving Spider-Man himself on “read.”

Haaland had a simple explanation

After Holland’s interview became a talking point online, Haaland finally explained why he had ignored the message.

Speaking on the Norwegian version of ‘The Assembly’, the footballer admitted the situation was a little embarrassing.

“This is a bit embarrassing, to be completely honest.”

He recalled receiving the message while he was in Monaco for the Formula 1 event.

According to Haaland, the problem was not the invitation. It was that he had no idea who had sent it.

“We were in Monaco at the Formula 1, and then I got a message. I don’t watch movies much, so I have no idea who people are.”

Why the message stayed unanswered

Haaland explained that because he did not recognise Tom Holland’s name, he assumed the message had come from a stranger.

“There was one asking if we could go out for dinner, but I’d never seen him, so I didn’t bother to answer. I didn’t want to answer an unknown person.”

His honest confession amused fans even more, with many joking that the football star accidentally ignored one of Hollywood’s biggest actors simply because he does not watch many films.

The internet is now waiting for the dinner

Now that Haaland has officially accepted the invitation, the ball is back in Tom Holland’s court. The striker has already made it clear that he is ready, he just wants Holland to pick the restaurant.
