In a statement given to Variety, police said they had been informed that the alleged incident occurred at a licensed venue in the city. However, they also made it clear that the matter is still in early stages, and officers cannot share further details while the investigation continues.

The case only became public after Ruby Rose made posts on Threads over the weekend. In her message, she directly named Katy Perry and claimed an incident had taken place when both were in their early 20s. Rose, now 40, and Perry, now 41, were reportedly in Melbourne at the time.

Katy Perry’s side responded quickly. A representative for the singer denied all allegations in a statement to Variety, describing the claims as completely false.

The spokesperson said the accusations circulating online are not just untrue but also harmful, calling them “dangerous reckless lies.”

The statement also pointed out that Ruby Rose has previously made serious public claims against other people, which those individuals have denied.

After her first post, Ruby Rose added more details in a follow-up message on Threads, responding to users discussing her claim. She described a disturbing encounter and expressed anger while explaining why she had spoken out publicly.

In earlier statements, Rose had also said she was not planning to file a police report. However, that position later changed. By Tuesday night, she confirmed that she had now completed and “finalised all of my reports.”

She also explained that she would no longer be able to speak publicly about the matter. According to Rose, this restriction came as part of standard police procedure. She said it might appear as if she is ignoring messages of support or other people’s experiences, but clarified that she is simply following official instructions.

Rose added that while the process limits her ability to talk, it also feels like a relief in some ways, as the matter has now formally moved into the legal system.
