A possible reunion between two familiar faces from Korean television is taking shape, though nothing is locked in just yet. Gong Seung Yeon has reportedly received an offer to join the upcoming drama ‘A Casual Lie’, opposite Lee Jun Hyuk.

Industry insiders first reported the development on June 29, saying Gong Seung Yeon had received an offer for the project and was in the final stages of discussions. It did not take long for an official response to follow.

A day later, on June 30, her agency VARO Entertainment confirmed part of the report while holding back on the rest. “It is true that Gong Seung Yeon has received an offer to appear in A Casual Lie. However, nothing has been finalised yet,” the agency said.

About ‘A Casual Lie’

Lee Jun Hyuk was confirmed for the lead role earlier this year, so his involvement is already locked in. The drama is based on a popular web novel of the same name by author Kim Eon Hee, currently going by the working title A Casual Lie.

The story follows Tae Jun Seop, played by Lee Jun Hyuk, the grandson of TK Group’s chairman and someone widely seen as the picture perfect heir. His life gets complicated when Yeon Woo Kyung, a copywriter, enters the picture. The two end up pulled into a tense, high stakes battle over who will eventually take control of TK Group.

Part of a bigger shared universe

A Casual Lie is not a standalone project in the usual sense. It belongs to the same shared universe as another drama, Iseop’s Romance, which is also adapted from one of Kim Eon Hee’s web novels and stars Lee Jong Suk.

The two shows follow different lead characters and tell their own separate stories, but they are connected through the same fictional universe the author built across her web novels.

A familiar pairing, if it happens

If Gong Seung Yeon does sign on, this would not be her first time sharing the screen with Lee Jun Hyuk. The two previously worked together back in 2018, in the KBS2 drama ‘Are You Human Too’.

In that earlier series, Gong played a bodyguard assigned to protect someone connected to PK Group, while Lee Jun Hyuk played the head of the company’s operations team. Years later, the two could end up back in a similar corporate drama setting, this time with a love story layered into the power struggle.
