Grammy-winning singer Ed Sheeran is setting a new personal goal: to get a six-pack for the very first time. The pop star opened up about his fitness journey during a conversation with Andy Cohen for Sirius XM’s Small Stage Series.

“I gained quite a bit of weight last year,” Ed Sheeran said. “So, I decided to hit the gym seriously and try to lose about a stone. Once I started, I thought, ‘Why not see how far I can push this?’”

The “Perfect” singer admitted he has never had a six-pack before, and now he’s determined to achieve it. “I’ve never actually had one in my life, so I want to see if I can get there,” he said.

While he is motivated, Sheeran revealed staying on track hasn’t been easy. “I keep slipping up sometimes, like when I’m out and have a couple of beers,” he laughed. “But overall, it’s going pretty well. I feel like I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in.”

This isn’t the first time the singer has spoken about his health and fitness. In 2019, Sheeran shared on the ‘Behind the Metal’ podcast that he started exercising seriously after quitting smoking.

“When I stopped smoking, I realized how much my lungs needed clearing out,” he said. He added that he prefers exercising outdoors rather than hitting the gym. “Fresh air really gives you a reset. That’s why I started exercising,” he explained.

Sheeran also reflected on the importance of balance in his life. For years, he admitted, his career came before everything else. “In the first decade of my career, I was extremely unhappy because I had no balance. I was just working, all the time. My music was hugely successful, but my personal life suffered,” he told ‘The Sun’ newspaper.

Now, the singer has found a healthier balance between work and personal life. “These days, family and friends make up about 70 percent of my life, and work is around 30 percent. Before, it was 100 percent work and nothing else,” Sheeran said.

He credits his marriage to Cherry Seaborn and being a father to their daughters, Lyra and Jupiter, for helping him shift priorities. “Finding that balance, living as a human being rather than just a pop star machine, is my true measure of success,” he added.
