Crystal Hefner, widow of Playboy magazine mogul Hugh Hefner, has unveiled distressing revelations in her new memoir, “Only Say Good Things: Surviving Playboy and Finding Myself.” In a candid interview with People, she exposed unsettling details about the alleged neglect and abuse suffered by domesticated and exotic animals residing at the infamous Playboy Mansion.

Expressing profound sorrow, Crystal recounted her emotional distress during her time at the mansion, stating, “Yeah, I feel like I was constantly crying for everything and everybody there. It was so sad.” Among the distressing incidents detailed in her memoir, Crystal revealed that her late husband maintained two pet lovebirds confined in his bathroom, a seemingly idyllic setup that ended in tragedy. A malfunction in the water dispenser resulted in the continual perishing and replacement of the birds.

Despite Hugh Hefner possessing a zoo license permitting the housing of monkeys, peacocks, toucans, and other exotic creatures on the premises, Crystal observed that the animals did not exhibit signs of well-being. “All those animals were so depressed and sad looking, you walk by the cages and you’re just, none of them were happy,” she disclosed. The memoir goes on to detail instances where Crystal claimed to hear the animals’ cries even from within the confines of her bedroom, suggesting a pervasive atmosphere of distress.

In her poignant account, Crystal Hefner shed light on the apparent suffering of the animals, describing their cries as haunting. “Even with the window shut, I could hear their plaintive voices in my mind. ‘Help, help,’ they cawed and wailed — at least that’s what it sounded like to me,” she penned, according to People.

These revelations from Crystal Hefner raise questions about the treatment of animals at the Playboy Mansion during Hugh Hefner’s tenure. As the public processes this disturbing information, it serves as a reminder of the importance of ethical and humane treatment of animals, regardless of the context or surroundings.
