Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor recently shared her thoughts on Diljit Dosanjh and his decision to release his latest film ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ internationally, skipping its release in India.

This came after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which led to a ban on Pakistani artists working in India. Vaani, who was working with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan on her romantic drama ‘Abir Gulaal’, saw her own film stalled as a result of the escalating tension between the two countries.

In an interview with NDTV, Vaani addressed the controversy surrounding Diljit’s decision. She pointed out that ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ had been shot before the Pahalgam attack, when the situation was very different.

“I am assuming his film was shot before the atrocious attack. And as a producer, his investment would have been at stake,” she said. “I guess around 100 technicians were involved in making the film. So it’s not easy to just abandon a project after it’s already completed.”

Vaani also defended Diljit’s actions, clarifying that the popular singer-actor’s intention was not to disrespect India. She emphasized that Diljit, as a global superstar, had to make decisions based on the circumstances at the time.

“I don’t think he meant to disrespect the nation in any way,” she added. “He’s a global star, admired all over the world. He made the decision he felt was best for him. But, at the end of the day, I don’t think any laws were broken.”

The situation surrounding the film is complex. Following the attack and the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian government banned Pakistani actors from working in India. This created a tricky situation for ‘Sardaar Ji 3’, which features Pakistani actress Hania Amir in a major role.

Although the film was complete long before the recent political developments, the decision came out to release it only internationally on June 27, 2025, avoiding any potential fallout in India.

Diljit’s move to skip an Indian release sparked backlash. Some members of the film industry even called for a ban on his future projects in India.

However, both Diljit and the film’s production team stood by their decision. They explained that the project was complete before the tense political climate emerged.
