Bollywood singer Udit Narayan finds himself in a storm far away from the recording studio. His first wife, Ranjana, has approached the Women’s Police Station in Supaul, Bihar, with shocking allegations that she was subjected to a major medical procedure, removal of her uterus, without her knowledge, allegedly under the influence of Udit Narayan and his family.
Ranjana, 61, accompanied by her lawyer Karunakant Jha, submitted a formal complaint on Tuesday claiming that she has been misled, mistreated, and denied justice for decades.

Ranjana’s statement traces her marriage to Udit Narayan back to December 7, 1984, when they tied the knot following Hindu rituals. She says that a year later, Udit moved to Mumbai to pursue his career in music, a decision that, according to her, marked the beginning of a long period of betrayal.

“I came to know through media reports that he had married another woman, Deepa Narayan,” Ranjana told the media. “Whenever I confronted him, he denied everything or misled me. For years, I lived in confusion and heartbreak.”
The complaint takes an even darker turn when Ranjana alleges that in 1996, Udit Narayan and his brothers, Sanjay Kumar Jha and Lalit Narayan Jha, took her to a hospital in Delhi under the pretext of routine medical treatment.
She claims that it was during this visit that her uterus was removed without her knowledge or consent.
Ranjana alleges that Deepa Narayan, Udit’s second wife, was present at the hospital during the procedure. The truth, she says, only came to light years later during subsequent medical consultations.
“I was horrified to discover what had been done to me,” she said.
Ranjana’s accusations go beyond medical betrayal. She alleges that in 2006, when she visited Mumbai, she was abused and barred from entering Udit Narayan’s residence. Even a trip to her in-laws’ home in Nepal ended in humiliation forcing her to return to her parental home in distress.
She claims that repeated attempts to seek justice through the Family Court in Supaul and the Women’s Commission yielded no results. Despite a compromise agreement allegedly submitted by Udit acknowledging her as his wife, she says he failed to honour his commitments or provide her any support.
“I deserve justice,” Ranjana told reporters. “Udit Narayan ji repeatedly makes promises but does not fulfill them. He came to the village recently, made promises again, and left. I am constantly unwell and in need of his support, but he neither says anything nor does anything. Enough is enough.”
Ranjana confirmed that the matter is already under judicial review, but alleges that concrete action is yet to be taken. Udit Narayan has reportedly appeared in court, but according to her, the legal wheels are moving too slowly.
Anju Tiwari, officer-in-charge of the Women’s Police Station, told reporters that the complaint has been officially registered. She added that the incidents date back nearly three decades and that the matter is currently under investigation. “An FIR will be filed based on the facts that emerge,” she said.
