Pankaj Tripathi’s brother attacked with axe in Bihar village, hospitalised in Patna

The brother of Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi was allegedly attacked on Sunday night in Belsand village, which falls under the Barauli police station area in Gopalganj district, Bihar. The victim, Vijendra Nath Tiwari, sustained serious injuries in the assault and is currently undergoing treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).

Belsand village in Barauli, Gopalganj, is also the birthplace of Pankaj Tripathi himself.

How the attack unfolded

Vijendra Nath Tiwari was outside his house when the assailants attacked him. The attackers used sharp-edged weapons, causing serious injuries. On hearing the commotion, family members and villagers rushed to the spot. The accused fled the scene when people gathered.

According to Sadar SDPO-2 Rajesh Kumar, Vijendra Nath Tiwari was getting soil filled near his house when the accused attacked him from behind using an axe and a sharp-edged weapon.

Medical treatment

Following the attack, the injured man was first taken to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital. Doctors there referred him to Patna Medical College and Hospital due to the seriousness of his injuries. He is currently receiving specialised treatment in Patna.

The motive: A land dispute

Preliminary investigations indicate that the attack stemmed from a long-standing land dispute and old enmity between the parties involved. Sadar SDPO-2 Rajesh Kumar confirmed that the prior dispute was over land.

Police have not disclosed further details about the nature of the land dispute or the identity of the opposing party at this stage.

Police response

Upon receiving information about the attack, police teams reached the scene and initiated an investigation. A case has been registered based on the statements of the victim and eyewitnesses.

The accused have been identified by police, but they absconded after the incident. Raids are being conducted to arrest those involved.

Sadar SDPO-2 Rajesh Kumar stated that all those involved in the attack, including the main accused, will soon be put behind bars. Police have assured that an impartial investigation is being conducted and that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.

Pankaj Tripathi, born Pankaj Tiwari, is a National Film Award-winning actor known for his work in Hindi films and web series. He is the youngest of four children born to Pandit Benares Tiwari and Hemwanti Tiwari in Belsand village. He later changed his surname from Tiwari to Tripathi during his school years.

Tripathi is best known for his roles in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Stree’, ‘Mirzapur’, ‘Criminal Justice’, and several other major productions. He graduated from the National School of Drama in 2004.

This is not the first time Tripathi’s family has faced tragedy. In April 2024, the actor’s brother-in-law Rakesh Tiwari died in a road accident in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad. His sister Sabita Tiwari sustained a leg fracture in the same accident.
