Bollywood’s ideology of a film’s success rate is the number of tickets sold at the ticket counter, which ultimately leads to the box office numbers of the film. Over the years, we have seen films making history at the box office and raising the bar higher for films to follow up.

It was earlier the Rs 100 crore club that was for the elite group. It was rare that a movie would cross that magic mark. But we soon moved on to Rs 200 crore club, and in no time to the Rs 300 crore club, which is now the official tag for a blockbuster status.

In the last decade, we have seen numerous films making an impact at the box office. While 3 Idiots was the pioneer of the Rs 200 crore club, Rajkumar Hirani’s latest film, Sanju, is the latest entrant to the list of films grossing Rs 200 crore in India.

Rajkumar Hirani should be officially credited as the founder of Rs 200 crore club. Almost a decade ago, when films were declared blockbuster for its theatrical run and reviews, 3 Idiots proved to be a game changer as the film became the first to cross Rs 200 crore collection in India. The film accomplished the milestone in its lifetime run of 70 days, collecting Rs 202.36 crore.

Chennai Express

The second actor to deliver a Rs 200-crore film was Shah Rukh Khan in his first collaboration with Rohit Shetty. The 2013 film surpassed the collections of 3 Idiots and took over as the highest grossing film in India for a brief time. Chennai Express earned Rs 227.71 crore. The film crossed Rs 200 crore in just 15 days.

Krrish 3

Hrithik Roshan’s superhero film is next in line. Krrish 3, the third installment in the Krrish franchise, was a blockbuster in 2013 and emerged as one of the biggest films of Bollywood. The film made Rs 244 crore in just 10 days and surpassed the lifetime collections of Chennai Express.

Dhoom 3

Not very popular with critics, but it managed to win over the fans with its never before seen action sequences and of course the chiseled physiques of both Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif. Dhoom 3 became the highest grossing film of 2013 and the first film to earn Rs 500 crore worldwide. The film crossed the Rs 200-crore mark in mere nine days.

Kick

Finally, Salman Khan fans got a sigh of relief as their beloved bhaijaan was featured on the list. To kickstart Salman’s list was his 2014 release Kick, which earned Rs 231 crore in its lifetime run in India. The film became Salman’s first Rs 200 crore film of his career.

Happy New Year

Wishing Happy New Year on the occasion of Diwali is a bit odd. However, for SRK it was the most fortunate day of his career as Happy New Year witnessed the biggest opening day in the history of Indian cinema by collecting Rs 44.10 crore. The film also successfully crossed the Rs 200-crore mark in 10 days.

PK

Aamir Khan’s 2014 film based on gods and godmen was universally successful. Owing to its critical and commercial success, PK is considered one of the finest films ever made in Indian cinema. The film collected Rs 340.8 crore in its lifetime run, making Rs 200 crore in just nine days.

Sultan

Once again, the ‘Dabangg of Bollywood’ was on top. Sultan had one of the best opening weeks at the box office ever. The film not only earned Rs 100 crore in just three days but also became the highest grossing Hindi film in the opening week. The film collected Rs 227.67 crore in mere seven days.

Dangal

Going toe-to-toe with his frenemy Salman, Aamir came right back in the race as this was his fourth film to cross the Rs 200-crore mark. Apparently, Dangal is the highest grossing film ever both on the domestic front and worldwide. The film has collected more than Rs 2000 crore and is the highest grossing Hindi film by collecting Rs 387 crore in its lifetime run.

Golmaal Again

If there’s any director with more than one Rs 200 crore film , it’s Rohit Shetty. Golmaal Again, which released alongside Secret Superstar, was one of the highest grossing film of 2017. The film collected Rs 205 crore in its lifetime run and reached the mark on its 11th day.

Tiger Zinda Hai

With the inclusion of TZH in the list, Salman is officially the actor with the maximum number of Rs 200-crore films to his resume. Tiger Zinda Hai broke numerous records at the time of its release and held on to its stronghold for quite some time. The film has a lifetime collection of Rs 339.16 crore and crossed the Rs 200-crore mark in just seven days.

Padmaavat

Padmaavat was special for many reasons and we are not talking about the controversy surrounding its release. Padmaavat became the first Rs 300-crore film for every top name associated with the film. Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone alongside Sanjay Leela Bhansali delivered the first Rs 300-crore film of their career. The film also reached the Rs 200-crore mark in 11 days in 2018.

Sanju

Sanju is as of now the fastest Hindi film of 2018 to cross Rs 200 crore mark. Critics and fans have praised the film and the star cast. Owing to its huge anticipation and the charm of Sanju Baba, the film has emerged as huge success and delivered the biggest hit of RK junior’s career. The film has commenced its second week at the box office and has collected over Rs 202 crore in just seven days. Interestingly, apart from Rohit Shetty, Rajkumar Hirani is also another director with more than two Rs 200-crore films to his resume.
