Anmol Bishnoi has taken a significant legal step. The younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has approached a special MCOCA court in Mumbai, asking for permission to formally surrender in the case linked to the firing outside Salman Khan’s residence.

In his application, Anmol stated that he wants to voluntarily surrender before the Mumbai court. He said this would allow him to face the ongoing trial and take part in judicial proceedings, framing it as being in the interest of a fair trial and justice.

Anmol Bishnoi is presently lodged at Tihar Jail in New Delhi. He was extradited from the United States to India in November 2025. Once he arrived, the National Investigation Agency arrested him in a separate case tied to an alleged terrorist gangster nexus connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate.

The court’s response

On Thursday, Special Judge SR Navender directed the public prosecutor to respond to Anmol’s application. According to the plea, Anmol is already in judicial custody for the NIA case, but he cannot appear before the Mumbai court without the right judicial directions in place.

Because of that, he has requested a production warrant be issued to Tihar Jail authorities. This would let his surrender be formally recorded and allow remand proceedings to move forward, either in person or through video conferencing.

Why he’s making this request now

The plea argues that letting the surrender go through would not harm the prosecution’s case in any way. Instead, it claims the move would actually help speed up the trial and avoid unnecessary delays going forward.

The application also points out that the trial in the Salman Khan house firing case is already in progress. Statements from three prosecution witnesses have already been recorded, all without Anmol present for the proceedings.

Background on the firing case

The case goes back to April 14, 2024, when two assailants on a motorcycle allegedly opened fire outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments residence in Bandra, Mumbai, before fleeing the scene.

Following the incident, Mumbai Police invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. Investigators alleged that the attack had been orchestrated by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

The trial is currently moving forward against several co-accused, including Vicky Gupta, Sagar Pal, Sonukumar Bishnoi, Mohammed Rafiq Chaudhary, and Harpal Singh. All of them remain in judicial custody as proceedings continue.

One other accused, Anuj Kumar Thapan, died while in police custody during the course of the case.
