It was Alia’s first-ever appearance as a presenter at the British Academy Film Awards, and she made it count. She was invited to announce the winner in the “Film Not in the English Language” category.

Before revealing winner, she greeted the audience in Hindi and spoke about how cinema goes beyond borders and words. Then she added, “Don’t reach for the subtitles just yet” making the crowd smile and instantly connect.

She explained that films speak in many voices, but what we celebrate is the universal language of cinema. It was a classy cultural flex.
