WBCS cadre’s body found hanging at MMCH

A West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) cadre officer was found dead, on Wednesday, under mysterious circumstances on the roof of the building of Midnapore Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) where he was recently admitted for treatment. The deceased ~ Samaresh Hazra (32), a resident of Rabindranagar in Chinsura , Hoogly was found hanging from the water reservoir.

Police officials said the officer probably committed suicide by hanging himself from the top of the water reservoir using his own towel. “But, we are not ruling out any foul play behind the death,” an investigating police officer said. According to hospital sources, the officer got admission in the MMCH on 18 January.

He was brought unconscious from Salboni WBCS training centre as he had reportedly consumed sleeping drugs. After preliminary treatment, he was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as his condition deteriorated. But, he went missing from the ICU yesterday. Later, a missing complaint was lodged with the Kotwali police in Midnapore.

On Wednesday, the hospital staff found him dead on the roof of the hospital building. The police officials said the deceased had passed the WBCS examination two years ago.

He recently joined the Salboni WBCS training center to train in the Land and Land Reforms Department. But, his colleagues informed the police that he had been suffering from acute mental agony and he had consumed sleeping drugs for which he became ill. The parents of the deceased, however, claimed that it was a planned murder.

The assailants had killed him before hanging him from the water reservoir. The police officials said we have initiated a probe into this matter and we are considering all possibilities behind the death. “But, we have information that he had some family disputes with regards to his marriage”, a police official said
