After jaundice, now one of the villages under Naggar block in Kullu district is under the grip of diarrhoea.

As many as 245 persons were reportedly suffering from diarrhoea from Halan-I village in Naggar block of Kullu district.

While the exact cause of the spread could not be ascertained, however, the disease is said to have purportedly spread after food was consumed during some ceremony.

The health department swung into action after 30 cases of diarrhoea was reported at Ayurvedic hospital, Haripur under Naggar Block on Tuesday for treatment.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Susheel Chander then directed the team of officials headed by Block Medocal Officer to visit all the houses in the village for line listing after which 245 persons were found to be suffering from diarrhoea.

CMO Susheel Chander confirming of outbreak of diarrhoea said that a joint team of the Health and Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) visited the village to take stock of the situation.

Water samples have been lifted and sent to Zonal Hospital Mandi for tests, he added.

“During the door to door visit of the health team for line listing it was found that as many as 245 people were suffering from diarrhoea. The situation is under control and no fresh case was reported today,” he said.

Besides, distribution of chlorine tablets in the area the people have been directed to drink boiled water and Information, Education and Communication activities were conducted to sensitise the people in view of precautions to be taken especially during the rainy season when water or food contamination risk is high, he added.
