Suspended IAS officers Pankaj Kumar Pandey and Chandresh Kumar Yadav

Taking a strong stand against corruption, the Trivendra Rawat government suspended two IAS officers for their alleged involvement in the Rs 300 crore National Highway scam.

The scam took place during the earlier Congress government. Twenty two persons have been so far arrested in the National Highway- 74 scam,-including five PCS officers, 2 Naib Tehisildars, two builders, middlemen, farmers and other government staff.

Suspending the two bureaucrats was a bold move by the BJP government in Uttarakhand. The Special Investigation Team conducted an inquiry into the scam and submitted its report to the state government last month. The report clearly indicated the role of two IAS officers in the scam involving paying high compensation to selected individuals by showing their agricultural land as commercial.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat said, “Two IAS officers were suspended in connection with the NH-74 case.” After taking action against bureaucrats, other state government staff, farmers and middlemen, the public is now anxiously looking at the state government to book political leaders linked to the scam.

Many political leaders played a key role in the Rs 300 crore scandal and made big money. The name of a leader who was earlier with Congress and is now with the ruling party has featured many times.
