Two held in Kunu Panda murder case

The Balasore police arrested M K Lenka, 28 and Ranjan Rout, 23 in connection with the Kunu Panda murder case. Kunu Panda, a notorious criminal was stabbed to death in broad daylight on 24 January here. With the arrest of Lenka and Rout, a total of five persons have been arrested in the case. According to the investigating officer, Inspector, Paresh Rout Ranjan is one of the key accused who was involved in the conspiracy of killing Kunu Panda, an ex-councillor and a history teacher.

He said on the day of the murder Ranjan was riding a bike while Kunu was in pillion seat. Ranjan had informed a rival gang of his movement and location. Since Ranjan assisted them in executing the crime they didn’t harm him. “Kunu had rivalry with another gang over several issues relating to extortion and area domination as far as crime is concerned.

He had been released from jail on bail a week prior to his death. To eliminate Kunu, the rival gang headed by oneKailash Das alias Kuan had organized a meeting and they took assistance of Ranjan Rout to commission the crime,” said the police. Rout and Lenka both were apprehended from Balasore railway station when they had come to arrange money for a long journey to different destinations, he said adding that the clothes worn by the accused while committing the crime were seized and weapon of offence, which recovered from a water body, he said.

The accused persons after hacking Kunu Panda to death too opened fire in air before speeding away in bikes to scare the people in the area. It may be noted Police earlier on 6 of this month three accused persons identified Jiten Murmu, 29, Babu Rao, 28 both of village Talengasahi and Abhi Jena, 32 of Chandipur, while about 10 criminals were involved in the gang war and murder.
