As the Toy Train once again derailed at Ramgarh in Tindharia below Kurseong on Thursday, officials of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) officials have expressed concern over the frequent derailment of heritage train along the narrow gauge tracks.

While there were no casualties in the incident on Thursday, DHR officials said a Toy Train had to remain stranded in Dagapur in Siliguri for about half an hour after a lorry was parked near the railway tracks this morning. “A chartered Toy Train derailed at Ramgarh in between Tindharia and Kurseong at around 3:30 pm on Thursday.

The steam engine train with two coaches was boarded by foreigners and had left Tindharia station for Kurseong. No casualties have been reported yet. The tourists continued their journey by road,” said a DHR official. “Following the derailment of the charted train, the train that started in the morning from NJP and headed for Darjeeling came to a halt too.

The tracks were cleared at around 6 pm, giving way to the Darjeeling- bound train,” officials said. It may be recalled that this is the third derailment of the Toy Train. It had jumped tracks at Jorekhola in between Ghoom and Sonada railway stations in Darjeeling on 4 February. Earlier, a New Jalpaiguri- bound DHR engine derailed at the NJP station on 2 February.
