Humanity was put to shame yet again when an 8-year-old girl was raped and brutally tortured on Tuesday and in yet another case of insensitivity from politicians, the leaders want to be thanked for visiting the grieving parents.

Mandsaur MP Sudhir Gupta visited the parents of the victim on Friday and BJP MLA Sudarshan Gupta reportedly asked the parents to thank the leader for paying a visit.

“Saansad sahib ko dhanyavad deejiye, woh specially aap se milne yahan aaye hain (Thank the MP, he has come especially to meet you),” Gupta said quickly realising his mistake and adding “Let us know whatever you need…”

The victim, who suffered multiple injuries in the attack, is currently fighting for her life.

On Friday, the police arrested one more person Asif (24) in connection with the case. He was held from Madarpura locality of the city, after Irfan alias Bhaiyu (20), arrested on Wednesday night, named him as his accomplice in the heinous crime, said additional superintendent of police SS Kanesh.

According to the media reports, the duo had been planning the crime for a long time and they also scanned schoolkids for days and chose a small girl “who wouldn’t fight back”.

Asif, a construction worker, admitted to raping the girl, Kanesh added.

He was booked under relevant sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Further investigation was on, police said.

The minor was abducted while she was waiting for her father outside her school on Tuesday. After being raped, the accused slit her throat with a knife and left her to die, police said.

Following a complaint by the victims’ parents, she was found lying unconscious in bushes in the Laxman Darwaja area. Medical examination confirmed that she was sexually assaulted, they said.
