TMC worker killed in Cooch Behar, two arrested

Trinamul Congress activist Sanjay Barman was murdered in Mathabhanga, Cooch Behar, on Thursday night. Police have arrested two persons in connection with the case, identified as Ajay Barman and Mantu Barman.

Initially, the police suspected a road accident after recovering Sanjay Barman’s body from the roadside with head injuries. However, following instructions from Superintendent of Police Dyutiman Bhattacharya, CCTV footage of the area was examined, which revealed the incident was a case of assault.

“Initially we thought it was a road accident, but CCTV footage showed two persons involved in an altercation with Sanjay Barman. They were carrying an iron rod (shabol) and hit him on the head,” SP Bhattacharya told reporters.

He added that further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the murder. “So far, we have not found evidence of any political motive,” the SP said.
