The one hour long exercise which started at 8 a.m. on Tuesday was attended by Shimla MLA Suresh Bhardwaj, party vice president Ganesh Dutt and district president Sanjay Sood.

The party had appointed special incharge for successfully carrying out the cleaning campaign in each ward and the senior leaders also conducted inspection in each ward to ensure that the drive shouldn’t be sham exercise.

Rakesh Kumar Sharma, deputy mayor of SMC, said the party is carrying forward the Swachchta Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also to aware the residents of Shimla about the importance of keeping their neighbourhood clean.

“It was decided by the party that a cleanliness drive would be carried out in each ward before assuming office today,” Sharma said, adding we would try to carry out such drives once or twice in each month in future too to keep ‘Queen of Hills’ clean.

After assuming the office, Mayor Kusum Sadret said her priority would be to improve water supply, cleanliness, and sewerage and parking facilities in Shimla. “The residents of Shimla are facing problem of water supply and the party would try to improve the system in coming days,” she said.

Besides this, the parking of vehicles has also become a major concern for residents in every ward of Shimla Municipal Corporation and efforts would be made to construct new parking places to resolve the issue, she said.
