NGO protests outside HC, demands justice for Gudia‘Gudiya Nayay Manch’, a social organisation, criticising the functioning of Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) staged a protest outside the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Tuesday, demanding speedy justice.

The social organisation held a silent protest covering their mouth wearing black strips, amid high security that was deployed outside the HC.

The forum has charged that the role of Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI), ineffective in nabbing the real culprits behind the gangrape and murder of ‘Gudia’, a 16-year-old girl from Kotkhai.

‘Gudia nayay manch’ co-convenor Vijayendra Mehra on Monday charged of rampant ‘Jungle Raj’ in the state.

He alleged that CBI has failed miserably in solving the ‘Gudia’ case and the announcement of cash reward of Rs 10 lakh by CBI to anyone from general public providing credible information to lead to the arrest of real culprits in the ‘Gudia’ case, has brought the investigations of CBI under scanner.

“The investigations of CBI since the start had been under doubt. It is impossible to investigate the case sitting in Shimla, miles away from the scene of crime. CBI has not taken the case seriously,” charged Mehra.

Many of the cases from HP handed over to CBI have remained unsolved by CBI till date and the people were losing faith in the country’s premier investigating agency, he charged.CBI has kept those suspected in the crime out of its investigations right from the onset and to divert the attention from the case, CBI turned it on the custodial death of Suraj, one of the 6 arrested accused by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Shimla Police, he charged.

“CBI was in the dock right from the start for not trying to reach out to the real culprits, their functioning seems to be more of a mere formality. Now it has again become clear that the nexus of the rich, politicians and bureaucracy is at play to suppress the case and is also influencing the investigating agencies,” he charged.

A 16-year-old girl, in Kotkhai area had gone missing after school hours on July 4 and two days later her body was found in the forest area.

It was suspected that she was gang raped and murdered. A SIT of the state police was constituted which arrested 6 accused. One of the accused died in police custody.

Buckled under pressure with public unrest that rocked the capital city and parts of Shimla district in the areas close to the crime scene, the state government was forced to  seek Himachal HC intervention to hand over the case to the CBI.
