CJP’s Parliament march loses its script at Jantar Mantar, splinters into scattered protests
Student groups and Opposition workers formed a sizeable crowd, but the promised procession towards Parliament never emerged as one organised march.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a serial offender with 68 prior criminal involvements, bringing a seven-month manhunt to an end, an official said on Friday.
The accused, Tarun alias Gadam Wala, a resident of Aman Vihar and a listed bad character at the local police station, was wanted in a high-profile chain-snatching case involving an NRI woman earlier this year.

The case, registered at the Karol Bagh police station, came to light on April 5 when an NRI woman from California—visiting Delhi with her husband—was targeted moments after withdrawing cash from a PNB ATM on Padam Singh Road.

Two men on a black scooter snatched her 15-gram gold chain and sped toward Ganga Mandir Marg. The co-accused, Rahul, who was riding the scooter, was arrested soon after, and both the vehicle and stolen chain were recovered.
“Tarun managed to flee and remained absconding despite being declared an absconder by a Delhi court in August,” said Harsh Indora, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).
A breakthrough came on Monday when Head Constable Sunil received a tip-off regarding Tarun’s location. Acting on the intelligence, a team was formed and deployed for both technical surveillance and manual intelligence, eventually apprehending Tarun from Aman Vihar, DCP Indora said.
During sustained interrogation, Tarun confessed that he had snatched the chain while Rahul drove the stolen scooter. He also stated that the stolen jewellery was sold and he received ₹6,000 as his share.
“A drug addict, Tarun told the police he committed the crime to arrange money and claimed he had not engaged in criminal activity since being released from jail in January,” the officer said.
Police records reveal that Tarun has an extensive criminal background, with 68 previous cases including snatching, theft, robbery, burglary, and Arms Act violations. Despite working as an egg vendor and part-time drummer, he continued to be active in crime.
Further investigation into the case is underway, the DCP added.
