A group of students of standard 10 and 11 of the Ramesh Chandra Dutta Girls’ school on Friday staged an agitation in the school premises protesting the mismanagement of the school regarding their stipend.

According to the students, the school authority has failed to submit the original papers and documents of the tribal students who were supposed to receive their annual stipend.

The last date of the submission of the papers is on 28 March. The students on the other hand have already submitted their documents in the month of December last year, they claimed.

According to sources, the inner conflicts among the teachers of the Balurghat Ramesh Chandra Dutta girls’ school have once again disrupted the discipline of the school.

A majority of the students in the school come from tribal families and are eligible for a yearly stipend. Madhyamik and standard 11 students are eligible for the prematriculation and post-matriculation scholarship respectively.

A total of 64 students of the RCD girls’ school have applied for the same in the month of December last year with proper documents to their computer madam, Sweety Tudu.

The papers however have not been submitted in the district office till date, school source claimed. The school is suffering from a disruption in normal working for the past two years after a tag of war between two teachers for the post of headteacher has surfaced.

Sweety Tudu was appointed as the teacher-in-charge of the school for few months. Later, the district higher education department through the School Service Commission appointed Swapana Chakrabarty as the new headteacher.

However, Sweety Tudu denied handing over the charges to Chakrabarty and till date she has captured the head teacher’s chamber and papers,” said a school staff.

“We have demanded for our papers but Sweety madam refused to give them back to us. She rather said that she knows anything about the documents. We do not know what will happen to our stipend. Every student of our group come from needy families. We want the school to take proper steps for the students,” said one of the students of class 10, Subhra Mahata.

“I don’t know anything about the papers. You should ask the acting headteacher. She is responsible for the papers, said, Sweety Tudu. Swapna Chakrabarty the headmistress of the school said, “The students are claiming that they have submitted all of documents to their computer teacher Sweety Tudu who on the other hand has denied any such activity. The students will be the one who will be deprived. I will seek the district authority to give us some more time. I will try to recollect the papers at the earliest.”
