The Rayagada Municipality has launched a drive to improve waste management and has prepared a detailed road map for its implementation. The plan includes the provision of twin bins for each of the 16632 households of the Urban Local Body of Rayagada. There are 24 wards in the town which had been able to get rid of Open-Defecation completely since January 2019.

A patch of land measuring 12 acres has been alienated at Antariguda to set up a Solid Waste Management Plant. As per instructions from the Housing and Urban Development Department, training was imparted to sanitation workers, members of Women Self Help Groups and other stakeholders. Executive officer of the municipality Sachidanand Satpathy stressed the importance of segregation of wet (green Bin) and dry (blue bin) waste at the house hold level and was hopeful of the cooperation of women SHGs to spread the message further.

Mr Satpathy said, “At present, 12 vehicles with separated compartments for dry and wet waste have been moving in different wards of the town.”He added that since mid March desilting work of major drains has been going on.
