Punjab government will treat acid attack cases on priority basis and provide every necessary assistance to such victims.

Disclosing this in a statement, the social security, women and child development minister, Aruna Chaudhary said up till March 2018, a total of 12 women have been provided with the assistance of Rs 8,000 per month under the acid attack victims scheme.

She further said Rs 10 lakh has been sanctioned in this regard for the year 2018-2019 so as to leave no stone unturned in coming to the aid of the victims of acid attack. The minister said similar amount sanctioned for the year 2017-18 also.

Chaudhary said the acid attack victim would be eligible for pension from the date of submitting her application to the District Social Security Officer. For this, the victim should have disability percentage of 40 per cent or more.

The beneficiary needs to possess disability certificate which can be procured free of cost from the district civil surgeon. Emphasising the aspect of transparency, the minister said the financial assistance scheme is being monitored very minutely.

Every District Social Security Officer has to maintain complete record of the relief provided to the acid attack victims and ensure that the detailed report with regard to this aspect is sent to the Departmental Headquarter at regular intervals, she added.
