However, the department refused to share the details of these complaints.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AS Chawla from the NRI Cell of the Haryana police, told The Statesman that a large number of these NRI through complaints have expressed their apprehension about the encroachment on lands by their family members or relatives.

He said, "However, there are some other complaints received by the people of Haryana living aboard, including missing of passports, mobile or other documents but maximum complaints relate to property encroachment. Each complaints is immediately marked to the concerned official for their timely disposal on merits."

"Haryana Police is committed to look into the grievances of NRIs on priority basis for appropriate redressal as per the law of the land. The details about the district police authorities are also available on this website, which can be utilised by the NRIs as per their convenience," he added.

Over a dozen complaints from a number of countries received in almost a month after launching the NRI cell, certifies the reach of Haryana police in foreign countries, Chawla added.

On the occasion of Pravasi Haryana Divas held earlier this year, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced to set up two dedicated cells for the NRIs saying that the grievances redressal cell would deal with their complaints, while the other would be to facilitate their investment and they would be able to give their suggestions.
