Claiming that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is adopting “Kejriwal model” of governance to provide cheap electricity and free water by December 2018, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should “walk the talk” rather than making hollow announcements.
Addressing a press conference, Senior AAP leader and national spokesperson Ashutosh said that the Narendra Modi government had set a target of electricity for all by May 2017, but it has failed.
Ashutosh said on Monday, Prime Minister made some major announcements which include electricity connection for every house in the country by December 2018, including free electricity connections for four crore families.
“AAP views this step of the PM as a much delayed one but finally in the right direction. It has taken the PM almost three and a half years to realise that the poor need basic amenities for quality standard of living and the cost should be borne by the government,” he said.
“Our party believes that every poor in the country must get free basic amenities and the government should take up the responsibility.  Soon after the AAP government came to power, we provided cheap electricity and free water,” Ashutosh said, adding that it took Prime Minister three and a half years.
Ashutosh said that AAP is keen to know the reactions of BJP leaders who had mocked the Delhi government for providing cheap electricity and free water upto 20,000 litres per household.
The AAP spokesman said that even though the Prime Minister has given a new deadline to provide cheap electricity and free water, “but it remains to be seen whether the BJP can achieve this feat or is it just another hollow promise from them”.
