“Netaji’s legacy and patriotism will always inspire us. Will never forget freedom fighters who fought for us.”

These were the view of Hridayansh Yadav, one of the youngsters selected under the ‘Know Your Leader’ programme to participate in a ceremony to honour Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the Central Hall of Parliament. He called Netaji a great patriot who sacrificed a lot for the nation.

80 young participants, selected in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, government of India, under the programme, paid homage to Netaji on the occasion. These young participants, winners of various events organised by the ministries at all-India level, represented different states and Union Territories (UTs).

Thirty-one participants spoke in Hindi, Sanskrit, English and regional languages on the contribution of Netaji and recalled inspiring ideals and anecdotes from his life.

Later on January 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the youngsters at his residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. The prime minister engaged them in a candid and free-wheeling interaction. He discussed various facets of the life of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and what we can learn from him.

On the occasion, Modi also suggested that they should try to read biographies of historic personalities to learn the kind of challenges they faced in their lives and how they overcame these challenges.

The youngsters shared their excitement on getting the unique opportunity to meet the Prime Minister of the country and to sit in the Central Hall of Parliament.

Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi said in a tweet, “Interacted with Mr. Hridyansh & Mr. Bhavya, who were selected under ‘Know Your Leader’ programme to participate in the ceremony to honour Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the Parliament today. Happy to see their enthusiasm to learn about our national icons. Wished them all success.”
