West Bengal State Election Commission (WBSEC) commissioner A K Singh remained mum when reporters on Friday sought his reactions on bloodbaths causing deaths of several persons and injuring many others since the day of filing nominations and polling on 14 May. But he admitted the allegations of false voting in an area.

“An incident of false voting was reported in an area and we have addressed it,” Mr Singh told the reporters while he was leaving the commission office for the day this afternoon.

On the other hand, the commission has ordered the South Dinajpur district administration for re-poll on two booths at Phoolbari at Rajganj block in South Dinajpur district.

“The re-poll will be held on two booths at Phoolbari on Sunday because counting could not be held there on Thursday. As per the Panchayat Act of the commission re-poll can be held if counting of earlier polling is not done owing to disturbance,” an official of the SEC said.

On Thursday, counting in these two booths were postpones after miscreants snatched ballot papers from the counting centres at Rajganj block.

However, the ruling Trinamul Congress has swept in the gram panchayat (GP), panchayat samiti (PS) and zilla parishad (ZP) seats with absolute majority.

The party has won all the 20 ZPs and the Opposition parties could not even win a single berth in 10 ZPs in Bankura, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, West Midnapore, East Midnapore, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and…Trinamul has bagged 589 out of 621 seats in 20 ZPs while the BJP and Congress have gained only 23 and 6 seats, respectively.

Trinamul has got an uncontested win in 203 seats out total 825 ZP seats in the state. The court has already given a stay on the uncontested 203 ZP seats.
