An eight-year-old girl lost her life after an e-rickshaw overturned in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur, police said on Thursday.

“We were informed about the incident after the authorities from GTB hospital reported that a minor had been brought to the premises who had been declared dead,” a senior officer said.

With this information, the team reached the hospital, where the minor’s father reported the incident to the officers.
Eyewitnesses told the officers that the driver of the e-rickshaw was driving it at high speed before the collision.
“Immediately after the incident, the driver fled the scene. CCTV footage from the area is currently being scanned by our team to ascertain the accused’s identity,” the officer mentioned.
On the basis of the statements, a case has been registered against the absconding driver under Section 281/106(1) of the BNS at Jafrabad police station.
Investigation into this case is ongoing by the officers; further details are awaited.
