The three persons rescued from the debris of the collapsed building were rushed to the trauma care centre one after another by an emergency ambulance this afternoon. All of them developed fractures in either their legs or waists.

Anxious relatives of the victims of the accident crowded the trauma care centre and morgue since this morning when emergency ambulances carrying injured patients were found entering the hospital gate one after another.

Fearing an increase in the number of injured persons, the hospital authorities formed a pool of doctors, nurses, technicians and other support staff so that prompt and proper emergency medical attention could be given to the victims.

Most of the victims were brought-dead from the spot. They were sent to the morgue after doctors at the trauma care centre declared them dead.

“Three injured with severe damage in legs and waists are undergoing treatment at the centre,” a member of the team said, requesting anonymity.

The bereaved family members of the deceased refused to say anything when reporters tried to get their reactions.

Firoj Alam, a local resident and reporter of an Urdu daily, said, “I have brought two injured, including a woman and a man from the spot. Unfortunately, the man Ramzan Ali succumbed to injuries. Several other injured are still lying under the rubble.”

Biman Bandyopadhyay, speaker in the state Legislative Assembly, visited the injured at the SSKM Hospital and enquired about their health condition.

“It’s a very unfortunate incident and strong action should be taken as per the law to stop illegal construction,” he said.
