Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has found himself into fresh soup as an FIR has been registered against him by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Diamond Harbour leader Abhijit Das, popularly known as ‘Bobby’ at Jibantala police station of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.

‘Bobby’ has filed a complaint against seven individuals, including the TMC second-in-command on Friday alleging their involvement in an interstate fake certificate racket.

The complaint also names gangster-politician Saokat Molla, Abhishek’s personal assistant Sumit Roy, and Ayan Ghosh Dastidar.

Since the change in Bengal’s political landscape, ‘Bobby’ has been targeting Abhishek Banerjee, repeatedly approaching the police with various allegations.

What exactly is the allegation?

Offering details about his allegation, Das said, “Jahangir and Saokat Molla are Abhishek Banerjee’s close aides. Saokat never studied beyond the fifth or sixth grade, yet his stated educational qualifications changed in every election affidavit. All his certificates are issued by institutions in other states. He even claimed to have pursued study in ‘regular’ course. But since he lives here, how can he possibly attend classes every day? This aroused my suspicion, so I started investigating.

“It is a massive racket. Today, I have filed a complaint against seven people, including Abhishek,” he underlined, saying that police personnel at the Jibantala police station have assured him they would look into the matter.

During the previous Trinamool Congress regime, Abhishek Banerjee’s name had already surfaced in connection with coal, sand, and several recruitment scams; he had even appeared before the Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation on multiple occasions. However, following the political shift in Bengal, the Diamond Harbour MP seems to be increasingly buried under a mountain of legal cases.

Fresh cases regarding forged signatures, remarks about DJ, allegations of massive corruption at ‘Sebaashray’ health camps have also been levelled against him.
