As the Yamuna swelled and gushed into low-lying areas across Delhi, thousands were evacuated to flood relief camps. On Friday, Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal visited the camps in Shastri Park to meet displaced families and review facilities. Pointing to lapses in food, drinking water, and shelter, he accused the administration of mismanagement.
Kejrwal held the BJP government responsible for the flood-like conditions in the city, blaming them for insufficient desilting operations.

Speaking after meeting the flood-affected residents, he shared the plight of the displaced people and said, “I met the affected people in Shastri Park relief camps and heard their problems. They are facing severe hardships—food is not being served on time, there is a serious mosquito menace with no arrangements made to control it, and drinking water is scarce.”
The residents also told him that the tents were set up on Thursday, forcing many to live in the open under heavy rain.
He also spotlighted the ‘poor maintenance of the city’s drainage systems’, causing waterlogging across the national capital. “One of the main reasons for waterlogging is that desilting work was not carried out properly. In many areas, sewer water is flowing back, causing distress to people. In several areas, drinking water supply has also been disrupted,” Kejriwal claimed.
