Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva on Friday said that the decision of Delhi High Court Judge Swarna Kanta Sharma to recuse from hearing the liquor scam case, after initiating criminal contempt proceedings against AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and others, over personal and family insults made by the former Delhi CM, is a proof of her ideal judicial functioning and high personal ethics.
Sachdeva stated that despite several warnings from Justice Sharma, Kejriwal and other AAP leaders, continued to allegedly misuse social media, making inappropriate allegations against the judge in public speeches. This, he said, left her with no option but to file a contempt case against Arvind Kejriwal to protect her and her family’s dignity.
He further said that once Justice Sharma herself filed a contempt case against Kejriwal, who is already an accused in a case being heard in her court, it became necessary for her to step away from the main case in order to uphold higher judicial traditions.

The Delhi BJP president stated that Kejriwal projecting the judge’s decision to recuse herself from the original corruption case after filing a contempt case against him as his victory is absurd.

He added that the AAP leader needs to understand that he now faces two cases instead of one, and if he is punished for contempt of court, it would be even a bigger humiliation.
