CJP’s Parliament march loses its script at Jantar Mantar, splinters into scattered protests
Student groups and Opposition workers formed a sizeable crowd, but the promised procession towards Parliament never emerged as one organised march.
Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the month-long campaign “Delhi Ko Koode Se Azaadi” on Friday to make the national capital clean and free from waste.
The clean Delhi drive will continue till August 31, which she kick-started on Friday, starting from the Women and Child Development Department office premises in Kashmere Gate. The campaign aims to bring together public participation along with various government bodies to set an example of cleanliness.

She emphasised that cleanliness drives succeed only when citizens take the initiative themselves, adding that, “Today, the responsibility to make Delhi clean, green, and beautiful lies with all of us.”

According to Gupta, this campaign is a mass movement that will give new momentum to PM Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission in Delhi.
Leading by example, she personally swept the premises of W&CDD to underline the importance of collective participation.
Expressing concern over the neglected condition of the office, she assured that effective measures would be taken to improve it.
Speaking on the occasion, Gupta remarked, “Cleanliness is not just a habit but a civic duty. The time has come for all of us to work together to make Delhi waste-free,” she added. CM further informed that the first day of the campaign is dedicated to cleaning all government offices.
Highlighting the need for efficient waste management, Gupta stressed that the process for disposal of e-waste and scrap must be made simpler and faster.
She emphasized that cleanliness should not be limited to public spaces alone, but should also be adopted effectively in workplaces.
“Every department of the Delhi Government is committed to this special cleanliness campaign with full strength and dedication,” she said.
Gupta stressed that every MLA, councillor, and government employee in the capital is a responsible partner in this change, adding that the greatest strength of this drive are the people of Delhi, and every citizen is an active participant in this transformation.
The CM stated that in this one month, everyone will together clean all the streets, every colony, every market, and every public space.
“We will remove garbage, increase greenery, and make cleanliness a permanent habit,” Gupta said.
The first two days of the drive will focus on clearing accumulated waste and pending cleanliness tasks in schools, hospitals, and
government offices.
Every Saturday and Sunday, the drive will focus on unauthorised colonies and slum clusters, while special cleanliness drives will be conducted at Yamuna Ghats on August 14, 21, and 28.
The Ring Road will undergo intensive cleaning on August 29 and 31, and a fund of Rs 5 crore has been allocated to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for the campaign.
