Himachal minister approaches speaker invoking anti-defection law against 3 MLAs
The three MLAs' petition is pending in the high court against the Speaker for not approving their resignation from the State Legislative Assembly.
Himachal Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday sought impartial inquiryinto the incident of death of a young forest guard in the Forest department, whose body was found hanging upside down on a tree in Karsog in Mandi district two days ago.
The state BJP chief, Satpal Singh Satti said the Police were trying to hush up the case by calling it a suicide, which was serious. “How is it possible that a person commits suicide like this? The incident establishes the ‘mafias’ functioning with a free hand in the state,” he alleged. The young guard was from a poor background and had joined the job three months ago.
The BJP president alleged that the government had been sheltering the forest mafia in the state and had pushed cases of illicit tree felling in Tara Devi and other places in HP.

Meanwhile, a in a release, forest minister, Thakur Singh Bharmouri directed the officials in the department to inquire into the cause of death of forest guard. He said that the department shall soon provide weapons to officials working in forests to ensure their safety and boost their morale.
