Oldest politician in Himachal Pradesh, Congress minister Vidya Stokes, 89, is ready to leave her battlefield Theog Assembly constituency in Shimla district for chief minister Virbhadra Singh in the ensuing Assembly polls.

The CM may, however, take the final call on this in a few days.

“I have an offer from Theog MLA and the Block Congress Committee to contest from there. The people in Arki in Solan district have formally asked me to contest from there. I will decide in a day or two,” CM told mediapersons on Thursday.

Singh has left his own turf Shimla (Rural) Assembly segment for his son, Vikramaditya Singh and was eyeing some other constituency for the ensuing polls.

He has earlier represented Kotkhai, Rohroo (now reserved) and Shimla (Rural) assembly segments in Shimla district at different times. He is six time CM, eight times MLA and five time MP.

“We had discussions. I think it would be good for the party if he contests from here,” Stokes said. She, who was unsure about her plans till few days back and was under pressure from her family to retire, said even if CM contests from Theog, she would stay in politics and work for people.

Stokes, who had been close to CM till 1990, had turned her rival over an issue thereafter. In the 2012 polls, she again became friends with Virbhadra Singh, surprising her own supporters.

Earlier, talking to mediapersons, the CM said the bulk of candidates were already final and remaining would be finalised shortly. He said Congress was prepared for the polls with development as it is the main poll plant.

Singh said nobody should be carried away by the BJP bluff, which is talking about  50 plus or 60 plus seats out of 68 in HP in this election.
