The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government may review the decision on ‘unemployment allowance’ which was taken by the previous Congress government at the fag end.

“Our focus will be employment. We will review the decision on unemployment allowance, once we start functioning,” Chief Minister-designate, Jai Ram Thakur  (in photo) told The Statesman.

He said the government will try to generate employment opportunities for the youth in private sector, rather than making them dependent on the government. “It is not possible to give job to everyone in public sector. We will encourage self-employment as well,” he said.

He said the Congress party had promised to give unemployment allowance to all unemployed youths in 2012 polls, “However, the Congress government okayed the unemployment allowance towards the last leg of their tenure. Congress hoped to get political benefit out of it, but it did not happen,” he said.

The CM-designate said one of his priorities would be to streamline law and order situation, which deteriorated in the previous Congress regime.

He said the state government would take adequate steps to improve the financial health of the state through resource mobilisation and cutting down unnecessary expenditure.

“We will work in unison with the central government and implement central projects effectively, which remained a shortcoming in HP in past three years. The previous Congress government played politics and deprived the states of central benefits,” he said.
