The post has been lying vacant since December 8 last year after the death of the country's first CDS late General Bipin Rawat in an air crash.
Stressing on meaningful tripartite talks on Kashmir, separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani has said that unless the people’s aspirations are respected and addressed with sincerity, the negotiations or talks won’t prove of any avail.
Geelani on Friday said in a statement that India can resolve Kashmir issue only by respecting people’s aspirations, however, instead of responding seriously and taking sincere steps the authorities were relying on their military might and “strangulating the genuine voices”. Sincere measures are needed to resolve the Kashmir issue, and negotiations are the only option.
Commenting over human shield row and statement of Indian Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat, wherein he has said that “individual officers are entitled to decide the tactic depending on circumstances” Geelani said that such statements are not expected from a commander of any disciplined force, however, it illustrates their colonial mindset.

Terming Gen Bipin Rawat’s statement as “far from reality and his self-made analysis,” Geelani said Kashmir is a political issue and it does not befit a commander to discuss political issue.
