A fire broke out at jute mill here this afternoon, police said.

There were no reports of any casualty, the police said.

Four fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire which broke out at the jute mill on Narkeldanga Main Road at around 3 pm.

Though the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, fire officials said that it could be because of short circuit.

“There is a huge stock of inflammable materials inside the mill. Since it is a congested area, we do not want to take any chance and the fire is at the moment under control,” a senior officer of the Fire Department said.
