‘Bunty-Babli’ arrested for duping people through dating apps

A police team from the Cyber Police Station of Southeast District has arrested two fraudsters, Rakhi and Santosh Kumar Bhagat, who, inspired by the Bollywood movie characters, Bunty and Babli, used to dupe people via dating apps.

Eight mobile phones, 20 SIM cards including PAN, UIDAI and debit, cash Rs. 1,5000 four wallets, eighteen pills along with 250 gm powder of alprazolam have been recovered from their possession.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast Delhi), Esha Pandey said that a complaint was received on October 4, at Cyber Police Station regarding cheating through honey trap, wherein the complainant alleged that he was befriended with a girl namely Kashish Shukla on social media platform and, they both came close to each other.

On October 4, on a request from the girl, the complainant brought her to his house. In the house, Kashish offered a cold drink to the complainant. After consuming it, he became unconscious. After regaining consciousness, he found that his mobile phone, wallet containing his ATM card etc., and gold-silver jewelleries were missing from his house.

Some transactions amounting to Rs. 1,23,000 were also made by his mobile.

A case accordingly was registered at Cyber police station and investigation taken up.

A police team, led by Inspector Kuldeep Shekhwat, under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manoj Sinha, was constituted to nab the offender.

During investigation and technical surveillance, it was found that the accused was continuously changing her location. After a long chase, she was arrested from a hotel in Faridabad along with her associate Santosh who was also indulged in committing such offences.

On sustained interrogation, both the accused persons disclosed that they were inspired by Bollywood characters of Bunty and Babli. Accused also admitted that she had duped more than 20 persons with the same modus operandi.
