Pak doctor couple arrested on Indo-Nepal border in UP

Days after the bomb blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, intensified security checks along the Indo-Nepal border yielded a major breakthrough on Saturday.

A Pakistani man and woman, both reportedly medical professionals, were arrested after they illegally entered Indian territory.

Following the incident in Delhi, security agencies had declared a high alert along the Uttar Pradesh–Nepal border. Teams from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and local police launched rigorous checking operations throughout the day. During this drive, personnel at the Rupaidiha border noticed the suspicious behaviour of two foreign nationals attempting to enter India from Nepal.

When questioned, the duo failed to produce valid documents, prompting security personnel to detain them. The two were identified as Hassan Amman Saleem and Sumitra Shakeel Olibia, both Pakistani nationals currently residing on Dalmarton Road, Manchester, UK.

Senior officers from various security agencies rushed to the spot after receiving information about the arrests. The accused were extensively interrogated for several hours to ascertain their motive for entering India.

According to Station House Officer Ramesh Rawat, a case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act. The pair was presented before a local court on Saturday evening, which remanded them in judicial custody.

The arrest team included SSB Party Commander Jagatdas, along with personnel Rani Kumari, T Yamuna, and Jyoti Singh.

Security measures remain tightened across the region as agencies continue investigating any possible links between the duo and the recent blast in Delhi.
