Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday informed that her government is running an extensive relief campaign across all 13 districts of the national capital to protect citizens from the extreme weather and heat wave conditions.
Mobile Heat Relief Units, cooling zones, and temporary shelters have been set up to provide drinking water, ORS, gamchas, caps and other essential facilities to the public. According to Rekha Gupta, since the launch of the MHRUs on May 6, a total of 470,089 people have been provided assistance and relief amid extreme weather.

During this period, 184,021 litres of drinking water has been distributed, along with 243,945 ORS packets, 67,431 gamchas and 49,434 caps, she added.
Gupta said the highest number of beneficiaries of the Mobile Heat Relief Units was recorded in the North-East district, where 83,703 people received assistance.
The relief was also provided to 66,964 people in East District, around 41,667 people in the New Delhi district, 41,600 in Central North, 39,875 in West district, 37,870 in South district, 30,915 in South-West district, 26,695 in South-East district, 24,890 in Central district, 21,900 in Outer North district, 19,405 in Old Delhi, 18,385 in North-West district and 16,220 in North district.
The mobile units have carried out significant work across various districts, with New Delhi district recording the highest distribution of drinking water at 32,974.3 litres, while Central North district distributed the highest number of ORS packets at 71,625.
The south district distributed the largest number of gamchas and caps, with 7,860 gamchas and 5,240 caps provided to people.
Gupta said temporary shelters are being set up at metro stations such as Nangloi, Rohini and Peeragarhi, as well as at bus terminals and major markets, to protect people from the harsh sun.
The Chief Minister said the cooling zones and temporary shelters are now fully operational at some locations, while installation and expansion work is underway at others. “The government is continuously reviewing the situation and will further expand relief measures wherever required,” she assured.
Gupta appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during periods of extreme heat, stay adequately hydrated, use ORS and follow all precautions related to heat wave safety.
