An incident in Mukundpur area of Bhalswa Dairy in Outer North Delhi has left the administration shaken. A young child lost their life after accidentally falling into an open drain. The event has drawn reactions from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. She described the incident as deeply painful and unacceptable. She also expressed her sorrow and said that such negligence cannot be tolerated under any circumstances especially when it involves the safety of children.
The Chief Minister also conveyed her condolences to the grieving family and said that the government stands with them in this difficult time. She added that the loss of a child is an irreparable tragedy and the government will ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.

Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department took swift action in the matter. The contractual Junior Engineer responsible for the area has been dismissed from service with immediate effect.

CM Rekha Gupta issued strict directions to all concerned departments. She asked them to urgently identify open drains, uncovered pits, other dangerous spots in their respective areas. She ordered that such hazards must be repaired or secured without delay to prevent further accidents.
The Chief Minister also warned that any official found negligent in duty will face strict disciplinary action.
She stressed that protecting citizens, especially children who are most vulnerable, remains the top priority of the government. According to her, no lapse in safety measures will be ignored going forward.
This incident has once again highlighted the long-standing problem of open drains and uncovered manholes in several parts of Outer Delhi. Over the years, similar accidents have been reported where people accidentally fell into pits or open drains. These led to injuries or even deaths.
The situation becomes even more dangerous during monsoon season when waterlogging makes it difficult to see open drains or identify unsafe areas on the roads. Commuters and pedestrians especially children face increased risk during such conditions.
Meanwhile, Public Works Department (PWD) is currently working on multiple infrastructure projects across Outer Delhi. These include construction and improvement of major trunk drains in several areas including regions along Rohtak Road and other key stretches.
