4 children are undergoing treatment in hospital

A two-year-old child and a man died and four children were injured in a blast in a slum in Patiala on Monday, police said.

“The blast took place in the jhuggi of Ishrat, a scrap collector, at Rodi Kutt Mohalla in the morning,” said Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police S Boopathi.

He said Mumtiaz, aged about 30, and Mohammad Shamir (2) died while four other children, aged between one and 10, were injured in the blast.

The injured are undergoing treatment at the government-run Rajindra hospital in Patiala.

The SSP said migrant labourers lived in the slum area where the blast occurred.

He said it was being probed as to what led to the explosion.
