Millennium Voter’s camp organized by the South Dinajpur Bharatiya Janata Party youth wing has raised a controversy in the district.

The Opposition has criticized the move blaming it of bewildering the common people. The youth wing of the BJP has organized more than six camps in the district with an aim to rectify, enlist and to solve the problems of new as well as old voters related to the voter’s list.

State party leaders have selected South Dinajpur to conduct the Millennium Voter’s Camp pilot project, it is learnt. According to political observers in the town, BJP leaders through various ways are trying to build a good relation with the grass root level people prior to the panchayat election.

The Yuva Morcha in the meantime organized a camp at Paton village under Harirampur and Kamalpur under Gopalbati area in Balurghat on Monday.

According to BJP leader Mukul Roy, after experiencing a strong hold of the BJP youth wing in the district, state leaders have decided to start the Millennium Voter’s Camp project from South Dinajpur.

The wings have started holding camps since February which are being organized at the Zilla Parisad level. According to a district leader, new voters are being enlisted and their problems are being solved by the party members on the spot using laptops and internet facility.

Meanwhile, last week the Yuva Morcha had organized a similar camp in Kushmandi where Vice President of the district morcha was allegedly attacked by Trinamul Congress goons, it is learnt.

“Following the guideline of the Election Commission we will try to reach the booth level voters to solve their problems related to the voter list. We will help everyone and everyone’s problem will be solved with the help of internet,” said the district president of the Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha, Avishek Sengupta.

The district president of TMC, Bipllab Mitra meanwhile, blamed the BJP of confusing people. Mr Mitra said, “They are trying to create confusion among the voters. They have no right to organize such camps. The problem regarding voter’s list can be only solved by the Block Development Officer and by the Sub Divisional Officer. BJP is trying to fool people. People will reject them and their tricks.”
