A 33-year-old associate of the Neetu Dabodia Gang was arrested for allegedly opening fire in Northwest Delhi’s Majra Dabas, police said on Friday.

The police nabbed Dev Vart, a resident of Majra Dabas, from Dwarka on Thursday with a semi-automatic pistol made in Italy and one live cartridge from his possession.

Harsh Indora, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), in his statement said, “Following a personal dispute, Dev fired multiple rounds outside the house of Majra Dabas on Wednesday, which created panic in the area.”

With this information, a case was registered at the Kanjhawala police station, and an inquiry was taken up by the cops.

The officer added that Vart, who had been jailed earlier for murder and extortion, reportedly tried to reassemble his former gang members to revive the Neetu Dabodia gang’s operations.

“In the year 2013, Dabodia was killed in a police encounter,” DCP Indora added in his statement further.

He said, “We were informed about his presence in Dwarka, and with this lead, we laid a trap in the area, which led to Vart’s arrest.”

During sustained questioning, Dev owned up his close ties with the Dabodia gang and told the police that he was trying to re-establish its influence, the officer said.

Dev Vart has a history of crime, as he was held for his involvement in a murder case that happened in 2012, as well as for a 2013 extortion case that was registered at Sahabad Dairy and Kanjhawala police stations, respectively, police said.

Moreover, cops are now trying to identify Vart’s accomplices to prevent any further attempt to revive the gang’s network, DCP Indora stated.
